Local Surgeries receive CQC results
The Eastern Daily Press reported on Friday (22nd July) on the numerous failings found by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) during their inspection of Orchard Surgery in Dereham. The report identified that hundreds of patients had been placed at risk by the Surgery’s failings to properly monitor patients, review medication, and in the accuracy of the information recorded within the patient’s notes. The outcome of the inspection has resulted in the Surgery being placed in special measures whilst they work to make the required improvements.
Whilst it is disappointing that so many failings were identified in the report, it highlights the importance of the CQC. The CQC regulates all health and social care services in England and working together with NHS England seeks to ensure the quality and safety of care in GP surgeries, hospitals, dentists, ambulances, care homes and even in the care provided in your own home. Patients, of course, should be able to trust their Doctor and have complete faith in the treatment and advice being provided to them but they should never be afraid to ask questions if they feel that their concerns are not being properly addressed.
