Rogers & Norton Kicks Off 2024-2025 Law Academy with First Workshop
Yesterday, Rogers & Norton welcomed 17 sixth-form students from five Norfolk schools and colleges to the first session of our 2024-2025 Law Academy. Students from Norwich School, Wymondham College, Thorpe St. Andrew High School and Sixth Form, Jane Austen College, and Paston College joined us for an insightful workshop at our Norwich office, marking the beginning of a comprehensive legal education program designed to inspire and guide the next generation of lawyers.
The Rogers & Norton Law Academy provides students with the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the various career pathways within the legal sector. Over the course of seven workshops, running from October 2024 to April 2025, participants will engage in interactive sessions covering key areas of law such as Wills, Trusts & Probate, Property, Commercial Law, Litigation, and Personal Injury. Each workshop is led by experienced lawyers from our team, giving students a mix of practical insights and real-world knowledge about the different areas of law.
The inaugural session, introduced by Director and Head of Personal Injury Mark Hambling, focused on Private Client Law, with particular emphasis on Will writing and later-life planning. Our Private Client team members – Senior Solicitors Cathy Hipper and Tony Wright, alongside Chartered Legal Executive Susan Rowe – delivered an engaging presentation, sharing their expertise and providing practical exercises, including the completion of a draft Will. This hands-on approach allowed students to experience real-world scenarios and gain a better understanding of the responsibilities involved in private client work.
While we were in the planning stages of this year’s Law Academy, we were pleased to hear from one of last year’s participants, who has since secured a place to study law at the University of Birmingham. She shared “I received my A-level results last Thursday and have been accepted to study law at my firm choice, Birmingham. I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the course provided by Rogers & Norton during my Year 12 at Wymondham College. It gave me invaluable insight into different areas of law and inspired me to pursue a degree in this field.”
Director and Head of Personal Injury Mark Hambling said ‘‘I have been fortunate to enjoy a career in the law since joining Rogers & Norton in December 1988. I remember Philip Rogers inspired me to pursue a career in the law and supported my route to qualification. I feel it is very important that as lawyers we encourage and support the next generation of lawyers and I hope the Law Academy goes a small way to encouraging the lawyers of tomorrow to pursue a rewarding career in law.’’
