Shaping Future Legal Careers: 2024-2025 Law Academy Comes to a Close

The Rogers & Norton Law Academy for the 2024-2025 academic year has officially concluded, marking the end of this year’s educational initiative designed to help students explore the legal profession.

In collaboration with local schools such as Norwich School, Wymondham College, Thorpe St. Andrew High School and Sixth Form, Jane Austen College and Paston College, the Law Academy hosted a series of monthly workshops aimed at educating the next generation of legal professionals. These sessions were led by experienced solicitors, chartered legal executives and legal professionals, each offering in-depth knowledge of their practice areas. Through this initiative, students gained valuable insight into the daily workings of the legal sector, exploring key areas we offer at Rogers & Norton such as wills, trusts and probate, commercial law, litigation, property law, personal injury and family law.

The final workshop of the Rogers & Norton Law Academy held at our Norwich office, served as a fitting and inspiring conclusion to this year’s learning. This concluding session centred on legal career pathways and the various routes to qualification, a topic particularly relevant to the students as they begin to consider their futures beyond school and into higher or further education. The careers workshop was hosted by Mark Hambling, Director and Head of our Personal Injury Department. He was joined by Corporate & Commercial Solicitor Chloe Tooley, who spoke about her experience taking the university route, the steps involved in the qualifying exams and solicitor apprenticeships. Chartered Legal Executive David Percival travelled from our Attleborough office to guide students through the CILEX route and share insights from his 30 years of experience in residential and commercial conveyancing. Our guest speaker Spencer Turner, a Barrister from 12 King’s Bench Walk, offered valuable guidance on pursuing a career as a Barrister, including training pathways, funding opportunities and early career development.

Unlike previous workshops, this final event welcomed not only the participating students but also their parents and teachers. The inclusive format created a valuable opportunity for attendees to ask questions, gain clarity on various qualification routes and explore the broad range of career opportunities available within the legal profession.

One of our participants, Ethan, shared;

I thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the Law Academy, which provided valuable insight into a career in law. It was particularly interesting to hear from lawyers who had entered the profession through different pathways and the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each session really helped deepen my understanding of their roles. We explored several areas of law, each supported with resources that gave a clear picture of what working in those fields entails. The final session focused on legal careers and the various routes in. I found the section on solicitor apprenticeships especially informative, and it’s now the path I most hope to pursue. The speakers clearly outlined what the apprenticeship involves, how long it takes, and they answered all my questions thoroughly. I would highly recommend the Law Academy to anyone with an interest in the legal field, regardless of their level of prior knowledge or experience.”

At Rogers & Norton, we are committed to fostering the aspirations of young people interested in law, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue a career in the legal profession.
