Matthew is a Corporate and Commercial Solicitor and the firm's Head of Leisure and Tourism, with over 20 years' experience working in private practice and industry. He has specialist expertise in the Leisure and Entertainment sector and particularly the attractions industry.

Matthew joined Rogers & Norton in June 2025 and is supervised by Alistair Ponder, Head of the Corporate and Commercial Department.

Background Qualifications and Areas of Practise and Expertise:

Prior to working at Rogers and Norton, I was a Director and Partner in private practice, General Counsel in industry, as well as a business owner and manager. I have worked for both quoted and non-quoted companies and bring a pragmatic approach to my business clients, whether they are fledgling start-ups or well-established brands.

My training started at a boutique commercial firm in Manchester. Thereafter, much of my career has been spent working for law firms in London, Liverpool and Manchester, but I have also enjoyed being in-house counsel for several large organisations in the public and private sectors. I have worked across many sectors including financial services, asset management, healthcare, leisure, grocery retail and natural resources.

In recent years, I have developed a particular specialism in the leisure and entertainment sector, especially within the attractions industry. Recently, I was proud to represent the new buyers of Pleasurewood Hills theme park, and I am passionate about supporting clients in this vibrant and creative industry as it continues to evolve through challenging times.

In 2015, I gained my MBA (distinction) and set up my own business. With first-hand experience of how challenging it can be to run a business, I am passionate about helping clients navigate the legal landscape. I believe in building strong, loyal relationships with clients and developing a deep understanding of their specific needs so that I am best placed to provide tailored advice and solutions.

I have extensive experience and advise on Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), corporate restructuring, joint ventures, corporate governance, commercial contracts, business growth and exit strategies.
