Innovative Dementia-Friendly Financial Solution Secures Dragons’ Den Investment
In a recent episode of Dragons’ Den, entrepreneur Jayne Sibley successfully pitched her groundbreaking financial solution, Sibstar, designed to assist individuals living with dementia and their families in managing their finances securely. The Southampton-based entrepreneur, who conceived the idea while caring for her parents with dementia, secured a substantial £125,000 investment from Dragons Sara Davies and Deborah Meaden.
This dementia-friendly financial solution comprises a unique combination of a debit card and a mobile app, offering a tailored approach to address the challenges faced by families dealing with dementia or family members who lack mental capacity to make financial decisions for themselves. Jayne Sibley, joined by her life and business partner Martin Orton, presented their solution on the show, impressing both Dragons with the simplicity and effectiveness of their concept.
Sibstar arose from Sibley’s personal experience of caring for her parents with dementia, a circumstance that resonated with the Dragons. Despite lacking prior experience in financial services, Jayne highlighted the success of Sibstar since its launch in March 2023.
The debit card operates on a pre-loaded funds system, providing families with a flexible tool to manage spending efficiently. All of Sibstar’s functionalities can be instantly activated or deactivated, ensuring adaptability to the changing needs of individuals using the debit card.
