Long-serving Solicitor Richard Etheridge retires after 40 year legal career
After over 40 years in the legal profession and 39 years of service at Rogers & Norton Solicitors, Richard Etheridge, one of our longest-serving team members, retires this month.
Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1981, joined Rogers & Norton in 1984 as a partner, subsequently becoming a director and shareholder of the company and more recently a consultant. Throughout his illustrious career spanning over four decades, Richard has left an enduring mark on the growth and development of Rogers & Norton. One of his most significant contributions has been the training of numerous young lawyers. Notably, he has recently guided the careers of Jack Crosthwaite and Chloe Tooley, who have both become accomplished commercial solicitors within the firm. Richard’s dedication and expertise have played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s future, ensuring its continued success for years to come.

Managing Director Bruce Faulkner said: ‘‘I would personally like to thank Richard for the support he has given me and for everything he has done for the Company as a partner and director over the past 39 years.’’
Richard said: ‘‘Having started my legal career with Mills & Reeve as a trainee legal executive in 1970, I had the good fortune of meeting Nick Norton and Philip Rogers who were also at Mills & Reeve at the time. Over the next 14 years our paths crossed occasionally and having formed Rogers & Norton in 1982, they invited me to join them in 1984.
I liked their ethos and aspirations and felt Rogers & Norton was the firm for me. Having become a partner in 1985 and subsequently, first becoming Managing Partner and then on incorporation as a limited company Managing Director, I know I made the right decision and would like to think that I have contributed to the successful company that Rogers & Norton is today.
Rogers & Norton has always strived to be client-focused company and over the years the business has gone from strength to strength. That is not to say that there has not been challenges, but I feel confident now, as I look towards my retirement, that I leave the company in very good hands.’’
Richard has advised generations of business clients on a wide range of issues affecting their businesses including commercial mergers, sales and acquisitions of businesses, both company and asset sales and other business matters such as partnership dissolutions/retirements, shareholder agreements and company restructuring.
During the 1990s, Richard started acting for GP Partnerships and during the last 25 years has (together with his other company and commercial work he undertakes) developed a portfolio of GP clients, advising on everything from partnership advice, disputes, property issues, contractual matters, NHSE grant requirements and a wide range of matters that the public would not realise GP partnerships have to deal with.
For all corporate enquiries relating to partnership matters, commercial issues, and contracts, the point of contact is Alistair Ponder, Richard’s successor and head of the department. Alistair is supported by commercial solicitors Jack Crosthwaite and Chloe Tooley, ensuring that it’s business as usual. The team provides pragmatic, commercially focused and cost-effective legal advice to a wide range of business clients, from small start-ups to multi-million pound corporations.
