Meet Rogers & Norton’s Injury Team

Our small but significantly experienced and knowledgeable Personal Injury team provide a bespoke and dedicated service to clients throughout the country, helping to recover substantial damages on their behalf. Having worked together for a number of years, our Personal Injury team provide a unique and personal service during what is often a challenging time. Unlike many other larger Personal Injury practices, the team do not provide a factory-style service, but instead each client knows their lawyer, their expertise and the support team behind them.

As we approach The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL)’s Injury Awareness Week, we’ve put together a ‘meet the team’ article where you’ll learn more about our Personal Injury Team members and their specialisms, achievements, career journeys and hobbies…

Mark Hambling, Director

I joined Rogers & Norton at age 20, after completing my A levels in Norwich and spending a short period of time working for Norwich Union. Having been recruited by Philip Rogers the then senior partner. I initially joined as a trainee legal executive, qualifying as a fellow of the institute in 1996 and passing the Legal Practice course to qualify as a solicitor on the 1st October 1998, achieving one of the highest marks for the Legal Practice course in the country. Following qualification, I was privileged to be offered partnership with Rogers & Norton in April 1999, subsequently becoming a director on the incorporation of the partnership.

My areas of specialism include Personal Injury, arising from accidents at work, in public places and on the road and claims involving animals. I have undertaken cases involving assault and Criminal Injury claims being pursued in the Criminal Injury Compensation Scheme ( the CICA scheme) at both first and upper tribunal level.

I also undertake clinical negligence work handling cases at all levels of injury, ranging from birthing injuries causing lifetime consequences, to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment.

Outside of the office I enjoy music of many genres and attending concerts, comedy clubs and theatre productions. I can often be found in the most obscure small music venue either watching my son play or seeking out the latest new band to follow, or watching my daughter enjoy her performances on the stage.

My main sporting hobby is cycling and there is really nothing better than getting out on my bike in the fresh air and getting lost in the Norfolk countryside. I have undertaken many sportive rides for charity, including Ride London and the hills of Surrey. I regularly cycle with my clients and the barristers who I work with. It is an excellent way to discuss cases and a fantastic way to put clients in a relaxed environment to discuss their case. What can be better than a cycle ride followed by a meeting on the case with some excellent food and a pint of the local ale. Cycling is excellent rehabilitation for my clients and a means of staying in contact, long after the case has settled.

I have been with Rogers & Norton solicitors for over 20 years, initially joining as an Office Junior following completion of my A Levels.  I was quickly given the opportunity of moving into a fee earning role in the Personal Injury department where, with the support and guidance of the company, I completed my training through the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.  I qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in February 2008 having successfully applied for, and obtained, exemption from their qualifying period of two years.

I have several areas of specialism which include all types of clinical negligence claims; dental negligence, delayed diagnosis, delayed treatment, mis-diagnosis and surgical errors, and all types of personal injury claims; road traffic accidents, employer liability, public liability, product liability, and claims involving animals.

Outside of work, I am the Chair of Governors of a local Primary School.  I also enjoy reading “chick lit”, spending time with my family, travelling, consuming quality food and drink, and all whilst we manage the ongoing antics of our Romanian rescue dog, Hendricks (yes, he is named after the gin!).

I first joined Rogers & Norton when the company was established in June 1982 and rejoined in 2002 following a career break to look after my daughters.  I have spent the majority of my time at Rogers & Norton in the Personal Injury Department assisting clients with their claims from taking initial details as a first point of contact, speaking and corresponding with clients throughout the duration of their claim and liaising with all interested parties as a matter progresses.  My role also involves preparation of letters, documents, Court papers and bundles as well as general administrative tasks and file maintenance.

When not working I enjoy gardening and spending time with family and friends.  I have a rescue dog who I love to walk and can often be found strolling either through the woods where she likes to look for squirrels or in the cooler months along the beach.   I love to watch Rugby Union and support Saracens.  I have enjoyed many trips to watch them play in both Premiership games and European Cup Finals, I also enjoy supporting the England Team at Twickenham.

I joined Rogers & Norton in 2004 after completing a Legal Secretarial course at college. Having been a Legal Secretary in the PI Department for 19 years now, my experience over that time has helped many clients with their personal injury and clinical negligence claims.  I am often the first point of contact for clients, I undertake file preparation, prepare correspondence and documents throughout the case and liaise with all parties involved.

Outside of work, I am a huge football fan and have supported Arsenal from when I myself first started playing football at the age of 10.  After a 22 year career of playing football, I now like to run and enjoy participating in park runs, having completed over 50, and also 10k races including the brilliant, but very challenging, Run Norwich!
