Good Divorce Week 2025
Good Divorce Week 2025 highlights the importance of reducing conflict in separation and divorce. Led by Resolution, this year’s theme, “The Year of the Code,” focuses on the Resolution Code of Practice, which guides family lawyers in helping couples separate with dignity, empathy and fairness. At a time when emotions can run high, the Code ensures families receive clear guidance and compassionate, long-term support.
What is the Resolution approach?
Resolution is a community of over 6,500 family justice professionals committed to constructive, collaborative work. Their approach aims to:
- Encourage open communication
- Protect children from conflict
- Avoid unnecessary court proceedings
- Support the emotional and financial needs of the whole family
The goal is to achieve lasting solutions and stable futures.
What is the Resolution Code of Practise?
The Code sets out principles for respectful, child-focused family law work. Members commit to:
- Communicating openly and honestly
- Explaining all available options
- Prioritising long-term outcomes
- Balancing emotional and financial considerations
- Working collaboratively with other professionals
- Reducing confrontation and avoiding inflammatory language
- Placing children’s wellbeing first
- Acting with integrity, empathy and objectivity
- Continuously developing skills and knowledge
This Code underpins everyday practice and ensures consistent, compassionate support.
Why the Code matters for families
The way a separation is handled can have lasting effects on finances, wellbeing and especially children. The Code helps families:
- Communicate better
- Reduce stress
- Avoid escalating conflict
- Reach fair, sustainable agreements
- Protect children from emotional harm
- Move forward with clarity
